"I don’t do it
to die, I do it to live."
Seconds tells the story of Laura Blake (played by Natasha
Sims), who, after the loss of her father, a heartbreaking
relationship with her mother and finally, the tragic loss of
the only person who ever understood her, finds that her only
means of surviving is through self-injury.
The film, carefully researched and beautifully written by
Julie Ruffell provides insight into the world of self-injury
and the seconds that can change a person’s life forever. The
story is inspired by true events and is told through
memories, flashbacks, music and being quietly permitted to
share Laura’s most private moments.
Since first reading the script, producers Staci Bernstein,
H. R. Crystal and Adrienne Wilkinson have worked tirelessly
on the project, which they hope will make a connection with
those in similar situations or who know somebody that is.
In November 2007, the cast and crew were given only eleven
days to shoot in Bothell, Redmond, Woodinville and Renton,
WA. The small but very dedicated team, led by H. R. Crystal
have created a beautiful film that captures a level of
quality and detail that competes with the best of big budget
Hollywood feature films and shows the attention to character
development and story that reflects the best of independent
film making, complete with a truly inspiring soundtrack.
A combination of multi-faceted creativity and a desire to
start a conversation about something which often remains
hidden makes this film a powerful and moving expression of
silent suffering.
